The Catholic Community Foundation Announces Grant Recipients

June 10, 2010 - MILWAUKEE - The Catholic Community Foundation is again pleased to announce the awarding of grants for our healthcare priority to Milwaukee organizations that provide healthcare services to the medically indigent and to organizations within Southeastern Wisconsin that support the other priorities of the Foundation. "We are very happy to once again be able to promote access to quality healthcare in this time of great need," said Peter W. Bruce, Chairman of the Board.

The Catholic Community Foundation, which began operation on July 1, 2001, funds organizations and causes consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church of Southeastern Wisconsin.

The following organizations received grants:

Adult Day Services and Resource Center - Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $10,000
The grant will help support the Adult Day Services and In-Home Support Program.

Adult Learning Center - $9,000
The grant will assist nurses that provide primary health care, health based counseling, prevention/wellness education and a connection to health care services available in the community.

AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin - $9,000
The grant will help provide medical care and treatment of indigent persons living with HIV/AIDS in Milwaukee.

Badger Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired - $5,000
This grant will help support the Vision Rehabilitation Therapy Programs, providing critical therapy services and education to children and adults who are blind and visually impaired.

Benedict Center - $5,000
This grant will help support the Mind, Body, Spirit Wellness Program.

Bread of Healing Clinic - $7,500
The grant will help support the MedShare Program, increasing access to medications and patient assistance programs.

CommonGround Ministry - $10,000
The grant will help support Elena's House, a group home for men and women living with HIV/AIDS.

CORE/El Centro - $7,500
This grant will assist in supporting the Integrative Health Program.

House of Peace - $10,000
This grant will help support the House of Peace Community Nursing Center.

Marquette University College of Nursing - $2,500
This grant will help provide funding for medical supplies for the Marquette Neighborhood Health Center.

Medical College of Wisconsin Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured - $9,000
This grant will help support the operations of the clinic, providing free, high quality, primary care to uninsured clients.

Milwaukee Christian Center - $7,500
The grant will help provide medical support services to low-income elderly Southeast Asians.

Near South Side Catholic Schools Association - $10,250
This grant will help fund the school nurse program for St. Adalbert, Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz, and St. Rafael the Archangel.

Penfield's Children Center - $10,000
This grant will help support the Special Care Nursery.

Philippine Cultural and Civic Center Foundation, Inc. Free Medical Clinic - $5,000
This grant will help provide services for those who would otherwise not be able to afford care.

Rosalie Manor Family and Community Services - $10,000
This grant will help provide support for the Supporting Teen Families Program.

St. Ben's Clinic at the Cathedral Center - $9,000
This grant will help with nursing/medical services at the center for homeless women and children.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic - $9,000
This grant will assist in supporting the Urgent Care Program that provides emergency dental services to those who are homeless or uninsured.

St. Joseph Foundation Baby Safe Haven Program - $5,000
This grant will help provide medical care to abandoned infants.

S.E.T. Ministry, Inc. - $10,000
This grant will help support the Family Empowerment Program.

Sixteenth Street Community Health Center - $10,000
This grant will help support their Bilingual Pediatric Special Needs Case Management Project.

United Community Center - $7,500
The grant will help support a bilingual social worker and nurse to aid their elderly Hispanic clients.

In addition, The Catholic Community Foundation also awarded in this grant cycle the following non-healthcare related grant:

Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $18,035
This grant was awarded to provide assistance for the needs of retired priests.

The following five grants were awarded to provide scholarship support to students from Racine area schools:

Alverno College - $1,000
This grant will assist student(s) from J.I. Case High School.

Marquette University - $1,000
This grant will assist student(s) from Washington Park High School.

Mount Mary College - $4,000
This grant will assist student(s) from William Horlick High School and Walden III Middle/High School.

St. Catherine High School, Racine - $3,000
This grant will assist student(s) attending a Catholic college or university in Milwaukee.

John Paul II Academy, Racine - $6,000
This grant will assist student(s) attending the grade school and those planning on attending St. Catherine High School, Racine.
