January 27, 2003 – Milwaukee, WI. The Catholic Community Foundation recently awarded grants to the following organizations:
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $5,000
This grant will be awarded to expand their Companion Families Ministry Program which serves migrant workers in Kenosha County and parents with developmental disabilities in Waukesha County. It will provide leadership materials for training and hospitality for gatherings and meals with the potential to develop these materials and services to share with other parishes.
Child Development Center of St. Joseph - $10,000
The grant will provide science equipment and hands-on material on weather, nature, the galaxy, etc. for children ages 2 to 12 years. This facility provides childcare and education programs to over 275 children and strives to achieve and maintain the highest quality of services for the benefit of a highly diverse population of children.
DISMAS Ministry - $13,500
This grant will be used to publish and distribute a book of Catholic prayers to inmates in Wisconsin correctional facilities. DISMAS Ministry was established in July 2000 and a major component of their mission is its outreach to Wisconsin's Catholic inmates, who despite their wrongdoing are members of the body of Christ, and deserve adequate pastoral care and the opportunity to participate in a strong and viable Catholic faith community behind bars.
Holy Family Parish in Fond du Lac - $11,000
This grant will assist the parish to address the needs of the local Hispanic community with a leadership formation program and spiritual development. This program will provide faith development and enrichment for a people often underserved in our churches.
Our Lady of the Lakes School - $5,000
This grant helps support Elena's House, which provides physical, spiritual and emotional support to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Covenant Circle of Life Foundation, Inc. - $10,000
This grant will assist with the purchase of language arts materials for preschool through 6th grade. The school serves the Random Lake community and surrounding communities that at one time were five different parishes. This grant will help maintain the excellent education already provided, along with higher test scores, a better academic record with the more current series, and advanced placement in the Middle School and High School years.
The Board of Directors also decided to temporarily suspend awarding grants due to circumstances in the financial market.
