The Catholic Community Foundation recently awarded grants from its donor funds totaling over $212,000.

February 13, 2007 – Milwaukee, WI. The Catholic Community Foundation, which began operation on July 1, 2001, funds organizations and causes that support the mission of the Catholic Church in Southeastern Wisconsin.

"We are enthusiastic and grateful that we have been able to carry on our mission to such an extent and look forward to continuing this trend in the future" said P. Michael Mahoney, Foundation board chairman.

The following organizations have received grants:

Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $1,840
This grant will be awarded to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $2,000
A grant for priests, recognizing their outstanding work in the area of liturgy, preaching, justice and peace ministry.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $10,000
This grant will assist in supporting a program established to increase mass attendance and build vibrant parishes throughout the diocese.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $2,250
This grant award will help subsidize the training of individuals in the Ministry Formation Program for Catholic deaf adults.

ARISE - $1,800
This grant will provide support to operating expenses for ARISE (Association for Religious Instruction, Special Education) which provides religious education for children, teens and adults with disabilities. It is a collaboration of eight Archdiocesan parishes.

Casa Guadalupe Education Center, Inc., West Bend - $7,500
This grant will help support the "Developing Bilingual Catholic Latino Leaders in Washington County Program" which will provide lay leadership training to support Latinos as role models in their families, communities and faith, as well as training bilingual lay leaders to become catechists of the Catholic faith and become involved in Eucharistic services.

Casa Romero Renewal Center - $5,000
This grant will help fund the Youth Leadership in Action Program, an integrated, developmental, collaborative approach to form youth leaders among Hispanic students in grades 8-12.

The Cathedral Center, Inc. - $16,000
Grants were awarded to help the center expand their services with a full time case manager who will work specifically with women and families who require a longer stay in the shelter and more focused support and for general support of the Women's Center.

Catholic Memorial High School - $1,000
This grant was an addition to the Brian D. Hanley Endowment Fund.

Congregation of the Great Spirit - $500
This grant was awarded to help support the food pantry.

CorpCare Distributions, Inc. - $7,750
This grant will help fund operating expenses for the distribution of new merchandise to needy Catholic organizations and parishes throughout the diocese, as well as those organizations that fit the mission of the Foundation.

The Gathering of Southeast Wisconsin, Inc. - $5,000
This grant will help fund general operating expenses associated with feeding Milwaukee's hungry and homeless.

Gesu - $2,790
This grant will be used to support their meal program.

Holy Apostles - $4,000
The grant will help fund a program within the school called "Morning Meeting", a new curriculum fostering respect for others, honesty, kindness, forgiveness and confidence.

House of Peace - $10,000
This grant award will be used to provide holiday gift baskets to Milwaukee's less fortunate, allowing the poor to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with enough food for a holiday dinner and leftovers for several days.

Manresa Project - $12,960
This grant will help support "Partners in Ministry", a program originated at Marquette University, which provides an immersion into church ministry for students who are discerning whether church ministry is their vocational goal, either lay or ordained.

Marquette University - $1,500
This grant was an addition to the Brian D. Hanley Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Messmer Catholic Schools - $2,400
This grant will help support tuition assistance programs for those students who could not otherwise afford a private, Catholic education.

Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity - $1,000
This grant will help fund expenses associated with furthering their work.

Mosaic Partnerships Program - $10,000
This grant will help support an initiative that responds to Milwaukee's growing racial divide by connecting people who might never meet and encourages interaction at deeper, more personal levels fostering trust and cooperation.

Pregnancy Help Center of Milwaukee, Inc. - $13,700
This grant is intended to help fund operating expenses for this organization which addresses the needs of young pregnant girls with counseling and assists them with material needs.

St. Ben's Community Meal - $10,000
This grant will help serve daily nutritious meals to the poor and homeless.

St. Catherine Residence - $5,000
This grant will help fund expenses associated with operations to insure safe, affordable and supportive housing for women with limited income, and to maximize their personal growth and employment opportunities.

St. Catherine's High School, Racine - $5,000
This grant award supports the school's Literacy Program, which will increase the reading skills of all students, as well as enhance the professional skills of the staff, and broaden curricular offerings through the Distance Learning Lab.

Saint Francis Seminary - $9,500
Grants were awarded to provide scholarship support to men studying for the priesthood, allowing them to take advantage of the human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral components of the priestly formation program.

St. Hyacinth Parish - $500
This grant was awarded to help support their food pantry.

St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary - $3,000
This grant provides scholarship support for candidates for the priesthood.

St. Paul Catholic Church and School, Genesee Depot - $2,500
This grant will help support the Heavenly Babies Layette Program, which provides baby clothes and other essential items for newborn babies of mothers at or below poverty level.

Ss. Peter and Paul Congregation - $10,000
This grant will help provide funding for the SPRED Regional Training Center at Ss. Peter and Paul Congregation. SPRED is a special religious development ministry for people with developmental disabilities.

St. Rose Catholic Urban Academy - $10,000
The funds from this grant will support the general operating expenses for the Starlight Program, an after-school program that helps students develop knowledge and life skills to build a successful future.

St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee - $10,000
This grant will help support their comprehensive meal program which includes meals, free hot showers, hygiene items, clean clothing, outreach, and referral services for Milwaukee's homeless.

San Juan Diego Middle School, Racine - $10,000
This grant will help fund a program called The Afternoon Curriculum, an after school three day a week alternative learning and enrichment experience that builds confidence and helps the students overcome the lure of violence, drugs and other issues related to poverty.

School Sisters of Notre Dame - $10,000
This grant will help with operating expenses associated with the Theresa II Retirement Facility for retired Notre Dame School Sisters, religious women who have spent their lifetime in dedication to the field of education.

SHADE Foundation of America, Scottsdale, Arizona - $500
This grant is provided to help further their mission in cancer research.

Tyme Out Youth Center, Nashotah - $5,000
The grant will help support the training of facilitators to direct the new "Learning about L.I.F.E. Program" which will focus on relationships and abuse prevention. This program works with parents and children in the parish setting.

Waukesha Catholic School System - $2,400
This grant will help provide tuition assistance for Hispanic children in the Waukesha area whose parents are interested in having their children receive a Catholic education.
