The Catholic Community Foundation Announces Grant Recipients

February 14, 2005 – Milwaukee, WI. The Catholic Community Foundation, which began operation on July 1, 2001, funds organizations and causes that support the mission of the Catholic Church in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The Catholic Community Foundation recently awarded grants from its donor funds totaling $170,500 to 22 organizations and institutions throughout the 10-county Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

"We are very pleased to be able to continue to provide assistance to such worthy organizations with the valuable work they do," said Stephen Graff, Foundation board chairman.

The following organizations have received grants:

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee - $5,000
This grant will assist in funding expenses associated with the Evangelization Conference, providing parish leadership with an opportunity to reflect upon evangelization and discipleship.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee - $5,000
The funds from this grant will assist in supporting the expenses associated with the Vibrant Parishes for a New Millennium Program, a program for diocesan members addressing key concerns related to building dynamic faith communities.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee- $1,600
This grant will be awarded to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee- $2,000
This grant is an award for those priests that receive a Vatican II award, recognizing their outstanding work in the area of liturgy, preaching, justice and peace ministry.

ARISE, Milwaukee - $2,000
This grant will provide support to operating expenses for ARISE (Association for Religious Instruction, Special Education) which provides religious education for children, teens and adults with disabilities. It is a collaboration of nine parishes.

Benedict Center, Milwaukee - $12,500
This grant will assist in supporting operating expenses for the Jail Chaplaincy Program which provides spiritual support to persons detained in the Milwaukee County Jail, as well as their families.

Casa Romero Renewal Center, Milwaukee - $10,000
Funds from this grant will be used to help fund operating expenses for their varied programs supporting their tradition of service of fulfilling the spiritual needs and life-skills of the urban poor.

Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee - $10,000
This grant will provide support to the Open Door Cafe, providing a free hot lunch program for the poor and marginalized.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee - $10,000
Funds from this grant will help fund operating expenses for the Legal Services for Immigrants program which assists immigrants with legal assistance and representation, primarily victims of domestic violence and those seeking asylum in the U.S.

CorpCare Distributions, Inc., Milwaukee - $10,000
This grant will help fund operating expenses for the distribution of new merchandise to needy Catholic organizations and parishes throughout the diocese, as well as those organizations that fit the mission of the Foundation.

Daystar, Inc., Milwaukee - $10,000
Funds from this grant will help fund operating expenses for their program that provides housing and support services to childless domestic violence victims with zero to low income.

Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Inc., Milwaukee - $5,000
The grant is intended to help fund operating expenses for the Parental Faith Formation Series program as a means to provide DSHA parents with adult religious education corresponding to their daughters' theology curriculum.

Dominican Center for Women, Inc., Milwaukee - $5,000
The funds from this grant will help fund operating expenses for the Dominican Center's Home Ownership Program, which aids economically poor families to move from renters to homeowners through financial services, rehab assistance and community organization.

Dominican High School, Milwaukee - $2,500
This grant award provides scholarship support to children of Catholic school teachers whose children attend a Catholic school.

Manor Park Foundation, Inc., Milwaukee - $15,000
This grant award will help fund expenses associated with the Geriatric Ministry Internship Program. It will provide assistance to a Roman Catholic to complete the internship program and, thus, be better able to serve the Catholic geriatric population of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services, Inc., Milwaukee - $7,500
This grant award will assist in funding expenses associated with recruiting and training Catholic volunteer tutors from parish communities who can work with educationally and economically disadvantaged adult learners.

My Good Mourning Place, Milwaukee - $5,000
The award will assist in funding operating expenses for the bereavement center which provides counseling and peer support for children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, Random Lake - $2,500
This award will aid in the purchase of new religion textbooks to serve kindergarten through 6th grade.

Pius XI High School, Milwaukee - $7,500
This grant will help fund operating expenses for the school's Native Speaker Program, that was established to provide bilingual communication and support for parents and students because of their growing Hispanic population.

Pregnancy Help Center of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee - $10,000
This grant is intended to help fund operating expenses for this organization which addresses the needs of young pregnant girls with counseling and assists them with material needs.

Racine Elementary Association for Development (READ), Racine - $10,000
The grant amount will help fund the Pulsar Project, a "gifted and talented" program designed to enhance educational opportunities for all students. The association is made up of four parishes, Sacred Heart, St. Edward, St. Lucy and St. Richard in Racine.

St. Bernard School, Wauwatosa - $1,500
This grant provides scholarship support to children of Catholic schoolteachers whose children attend a Catholic School.

St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary - $2,400
This grant provides scholarship support for candidates for the priesthood.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Milwaukee - $7,500
The grant is intended to help fund liturgical expenses incurred with the initiation of a Sunday evening mass geared toward young adults. It is seen as a first step to offer catechetical, formational, and service opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $6,000
This grant provides scholarship support for priesthood candidates.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $5,000
This grant will provide support for ongoing Ecclesial Lay Ministers formation program.
