February 20, 2009 - MILWAUKEE - The Catholic Community Foundation recently awarded grants from its donor funds totaling $173,375
The Catholic Community Foundation, which began operation on July 1, 2001, funds organizations and causes consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church of Southeastern Wisconsin.
"During these difficult economic times when many foundations decided to suspend their grant awarding, our board believes it is more important than ever to award our grants because these very worthy organizations need our help now. The need for help within the ten counties of Southeastern Wisconsin is greater than ever and, thus, we feel it is our mission to try and answer that call for help." said P. Michael Mahoney, Chairman of the Board.
Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $2,100
This grant was awarded to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal.
Archdiocese of Milwaukee - $2,000
A grant for priests, recognizing their outstanding work in the area of liturgy, preaching, justice and peace ministry.
Archdiocese of Milwaukee, John Paul II Center - $10,000
This grant will assist in supporting three programs: Theology on Tap, 40 Days in the Dessert, and ECHO.
All Saints Catholic Church - $10,000
This grant will help fund general operating expenses at All Saints Commons, a home for homeless women and children.
Bethany Apartments, Racine - $10,000
This grant will help fund the Supportive Services Program for this transitional housing facility located in Racine for homeless women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Milwaukee - $7,500
This grant will help support mentoring programs for at-risk children and Catholic East Elementary School and St. Joan Antida High School.
Cardinal Stritch University - $7,500
This grant will help support the Saint Clare Center, providing education and formation of lay ministers and leaders who function in parish and social ministries for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc. - $10,000
Funds from this grant will help fund operating expenses for the Legal Services for Immigrants Program which assists immigrants with legal assistance and representation, primarily victims of domestic violence and those seeking asylum in the U.S.
Catholic Urban Academies - $3,500
This grant will help provide tuition assistance for students at St. Rose and St. Leo Catholic Urban Academies who could not otherwise afford private, Catholic education.
Catholic Memorial High School - $2,000
This grant is an addition to the Brian D. Hanley Endowment Fund.
Congregation of the Great Spirit - Siggenauk Center - $1,000
This grant was awarded to help support the Siggenauk Center food pantry.
Dismas Ministry - $2,500
This grant will help offset the cost and printing of the 3-part faith study for Catholic inmate which is being translated into a Spanish version.
Dominican High School - $5,000
This grant will help establish the International Baccalauraeate Programme at the school.
The Gathering of Southeast Wisconsin, Inc. - $8,000
This grant will help fund general operating expenses associated with feeding Milwaukee's hungry and homeless.
Gesu Parish - $3,000
This grant will be used to support their meal program.
House of Peace - $10,000
This grant award will be used to provide holiday gift baskets to Milwaukee's less fortunate, allowing the poor to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with enough food for a holiday dinner and leftovers for several days.
Justice 2000, Inc. - $5,000
This grant will help support the center's Driver's License Recovery and Employability Program.
Literary Services of Wisconsin, Inc. - $3,000
This grant will help support literacy services, including Adult Basic Education, English as a second language and GED preparation.
Marquette University - $7,500
This grant will help support Catholic grade school teachers that attend the Summer Institute in Christian Doctrine Program.
Marquette University - $2,000
This grant is an addition to the Brian D. Hanley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Melanoma Research Foundation, Hillsborough, New Jersey - $1,500
This grant is provided to help support their three-part mission of research, education and advocacy for the treatment of melanoma.
Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity - $1,000
This grant will help fund expenses associated with furthering their work.
Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz Parish - $3,000
This grant will help support English as a Second Language adult classes.
Office for World Mission - $8,000
This grant will help provide scholarship support for Maryknoll Priesthood candidates.
Office for the Propagation of the Faith - $1,100
This grant will help provide support for lay missioners serving full-time in foreign missions.
St. Ben's Community Meal - $10,000
This grant will help serve daily nutritious meals to the poor and homeless.
St. Catherine Residence - $10,000
This grant will help fund expenses associated with operations to insure safe, affordable and supportive housing for women with limited income, and to maximize their personal growth and employment opportunities.
Saint Francis de Sales Seminary - $5,675
Grants were awarded to provide scholarship support to men studying for the priesthood, allowing them to take advantage of the human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral components of the priestly formation program.
St. Gabriel Catholic School, Hubertus - $3,000
This grant will help fund a research based K4 curriculum and classroom supplies.
St. Hyacinth Parish - $1,000
This grant was awarded to help support their food pantry.
St. Mary's Springs High School, Fond du Lac - $2,500
This grant will help support aspects of their merger with FACES.
School Sisters of Notre Dame - $10,000
This grant will help with operating expenses associated with the Theresa II Retirement Facility for retired Notre Dame School Sisters, religious women who have spent their lifetime in dedication to the field of education.
Waukesha Catholic School System - $5,000
This grant will help provide tuition assistance for Hispanic children in the Waukesha area whose parents are interested in having their children receive a Catholic education.
