The Catholic Community Foundation Announces Grant Recipients

March 7, 2006 – Milwaukee, WI. The Catholic Community Foundation, which began operation on July 1, 2001, funds organizations and causes that support the mission of the Catholic Church in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The Catholic Community Foundation recently awarded grants from its donor funds totaling close to $155,000 to 17 organizations and institutions throughout the ten counties of Southeastern Wisconsin.

"This is the eighth grant cycle we have had and have awarded 116 grants totaling more than $1,000,000 in these 10 counties. We are encouraged by our ability to continue to help so many organizations in need" said Stephen Graff, Foundation board chairman.

The following organizations have received grants:

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc. - $1,740
This grant will be awarded to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal.

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc., Milwaukee- $2,000
This grant is an award for those priests that receive a Vatican II award, recognizing their outstanding work in the area of liturgy, preaching, justice and peace ministry.

Benedict Center - $10,000
This grant will assist in supporting operating expenses for the Jail Chaplaincy Program which provides spiritual support to persons detained in the Milwaukee County Jail, as well as their families.

Catholic Central High School, Burlington - $5,000
This grant award will be used to purchase new student bibles, textbooks and other updated media for the Theology Department of the high school.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Inc. - $15,000
Funds from this grant will help fund operating expenses for the Legal Services for Immigrants Program which assists immigrants with legal assistance and representation, primarily victims of domestic violence and those seeking asylum in the U.S.

Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha - $3,500
This grant was awarded to establish the Brian D. Hanley Endowment Fund.

Dominican High School - $5,000
This grant award provides tuition assistance for Latino students who have a demonstrated financial need.

Guest House of Milwaukee - $15,000
This grant award will help cover expenses associated with the operations for this homeless shelter.

Marquette University - $3,500
This grant was awarded to establish the Brian D. Hanley Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services, Inc. - $10,000
This grant award will assist in funding operating expenses associated with the base program which provides quality learning for educationally and economically disadvantaged adults.

My Good Mourning Place - $5,000
The award will assist in funding operating expenses for the bereavement center which provides counseling and peer support for children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Notre Dame Middle School - $10,000
This grant will help fund the Graduate Support Program, an eight year commitment to help place students in college preparatory high schools and continue to monitor their performance.

Repairers of the Breach - $12,500
This grant will provide general program support to help sustain the Tony Lee Sanctuary Center, Milwaukee's only daytime homeless shelter.

St. Catherine Residence - $10,000
This grant will help fund expenses associated with operations to insure safe, affordable and supportive housing for women with limited income, and to maximize their personal growth and employment opportunities.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $9,000
This grant will help defray costs for ministry preparation for a deaf seminarian through the support of interpreters.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $8,000
Funding from this grant will help create matching financial support in partnership with parishes for ethnic minorities in their preparation for diaconate and lay ministry in the Certificate Division.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $5,000
This grant provides scholarship support for priesthood candidates.

St. Francis Seminary, St. Francis - $750
This grant will be used for the printing of a vocations brochure geared toward high school students.

St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary - $4,000
This grant provides scholarship support for candidates for the priesthood.

St. Mary Parish, Kenosha - $10,000
The funding of this grant will help expand the religious education program for all students at St. Mary's.

San Juan Diego Middle School, Racine - $10,000
This grant will help fund a religious education program for students and an evening English class for parents of the students, as well as the surrounding neighborhood.
